Take Action!

A hat-trick!? In the World Cup!? In the first 16 minutes!? And then… a big win by the USA women’s team who made history by winning their third World Cup in front of a record-breaking audience of over 26 million people yesterday -- the largest TV audience for a soccer match EVER.

WOW!

But it’s not all wow. Sad but true: The Men’s World Cup payout was 40 TIMES higher than the total payout for the Women’s World Cup this year ($576 million vs. $15 million).

*Unfair pay is no game! Sign on to our open letter to the FIFA Executive Committee and Congress to say: It’s time to level the paying field! Equal pay for equal work is a must! http://action.momsrising.org/sign/EqualPlay/?source=blog

While the USA women’s team was winning the World Cup; women playing soccer (and across our nation) are losing dollars as they continue to face unfair pay on every field every day. In fact, across our nation women are earning only 78 cents to every dollar that men earn, with women of color and moms earning even less.

Unequal pay hurts soccer, women, working families, and our economy. Plus, it’s just not fair, neither for our new World Champions, nor for any woman!

Together we can turn this trend around! Women are soccer players, sports viewers, consumers, voters, workers, parents, and so much more in our nation. Our voices and actions carry power and together we’re unbeatable.

As Abby Wambach, current USA Team member and soccer legend who holds the world record for international goals for both female and male soccer players with over 184 goals, said: "I've never scored a goal in my life without getting a pass from someone else."

It’s time to pass equal pay. And we can’t do this without you. It’s going to take your signature, your voice, your action to pass equal pay down the field toward a win in all fields of work. We all need to work together for equal pay for equal play... on the soccer field, in offices, retail outlets, restaurants, construction sites, board rooms, Congress, and more.
