Great BREAKING news: Healthcare is here to stay!
We won! The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor the Affordable Care Act, keeping the financial assistance that keeps health insurance affordable under King v. Burwell!
Over 10,000 MomsRising members like YOU signed on to our People’s Brief to stand with the millions of Americans whose healthcare was at risk—and your voices were heard. MILLIONS will now be able to keep their health coverage.
But the fight isn’t over yet - Congress has a line up of bills gutting health reform all ready to go. (Yes, you read that right!) For example, U.S. Senate bill 1016 ridiculously proposes eliminating financial assistance across all 50 states as well as major funding changes to Medicaid that could lead to tens of millions of people being uninsured or underinsured. If passed, this would be simply awful for families. It’s essential that we keep up the MOMentum.
The U.S. Supreme Court decision today in King v. Burwell keeps us on the path of ensuring that everyone has access to affordable, quality healthcare. The serious legal challenges to the healthcare law are over. This is GREAT news for all the families who no longer have to choose between going bankrupt and getting treatment for a sick child and also for the 17 million people who have gained coverage for the first time thanks to the Affordable Care Act.
You played a big role in making this happen! Thank you! Over 10,000 MomsRising volunteers signed on to a People’s Brief in support of protecting the Affordable Care Act, and many also joined hundreds to rally in front of the U.S. Supreme Court in the cold and rain to say #DontTakeMyCare—and by backing us up online with letters, tweets, and more—you helped our message ring loud and clear at the steps of the courthouse.
Even though we had this huge victory at the U.S. Supreme Court, just across the street, Congress is in the middle of negotiating the budget, where major threats are being proposed to important healthcare programs like Medicaid. For example, if passed the proposed federal budget would have devastating consequences to families by scaling back benefits to people who need healthcare the most (i.e. pregnant women, children living in poverty, those with chronic diseases, etc.).
This is why our work here isn’t done yet!
We know that with our super powers combined, with YOUR voice and help, we can continue to protect access to affordable healthcare and make a tangible, lasting difference on the health and well-being of all families across the nation.
