Local mom speaks out on lead and water safety: "This isn't something that can be taken back."
Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray visited Tacoma, WA to meet with MomsRising member Betsy Kindblade, Tacoma Public Schools, Tacoma Public Utilities, the Washington Health Department, and other Tacoma parents to talk about the local and national crisis of lead in school and home drinking water.
Tacoma parents are still grappling with the news that high levels of lead were found in several schools. In fact, at one elementary school, levels were as high as 2,330 parts per billion — that is more than 150 times the federal EPA's threshold for action, which is 15 ppb!
Betsy, whose own home has been flagged as one of those possibly impacted by lead contamination, reminded officials that this crisis will have lifelong impacts on millions of families. "This isn't something that can be taken back. We need supports not just for infrastructure and testing but for what comes next for these children."
