Prior to the House Healthcare Reform legislation passing last week 220-215, the House voted on the Stupak-Pitts Amendment which restricted the use of federal and private funds to cover abortions. The Democrats in Congress took a gamble that in order to be able to garner sufficient votes to pass the House Healthcare Reform, they would include language that would offer a new level of restrictions to abortion funding to appease conservatives and pro-life legislators. There has been a tremendous firestorm and tidal wave of anger and opposition to this amendment and the House Healthcare Reform legislation as a result of this inclusion from women, pro-abortion rights supporters, and communities nationally.
