Right now as we speak your members of Congress are home on August recess, enjoying their vacations and reconnecting with their districts.  One surefire way to get their attention while they are back in their districts is to submit a letter to the editor to your local newspaper.

Will you join me in writing a Letter to the Editor that calls on Congress to raise the minimum wage when they return to Capitol Hill in September? http://action.momsrising.org/lte/MinimumWage_LTE/

It’s easy! When you click on the link above, we’ll lead you through a quick process to write a Letter to the Editor of your local newspaper. This tool is pretty magical—you can easily edit our pre-drafted letter, if you wish, and send it to your paper with just a few clicks.

The pre-drafted letter (which you can edit when you click through to the link!) is logical, concise, and simply says:

“Most people have the wrong image of the average minimum wage worker. Two-thirds of minimum wage earners are women. More than a quarter have children. The average age of a minimum wage worker is 35. Many minimum wage workers are moms and dads trying to raise a family on a dismal annual salary of  $15,080.

This isn’t just hurting our families, it’s hurting our economy.   Increasing the minimum wage would boost our community and the overall economy by providing more people with income to spend in our local stores on the basics like food, medicine and gasoline.

The federal minimum wage hasn’t been raised in over five years. When Congress returns to Washington, D.C. in September, a top priority needs to be to raise the federal minimum wage from $7.25 to $10.10. Our economy and our families are depending on it!

Sincerely,”

You were one of the more than 20,000 MomsRising members who signed a petition asking Congress to raise the minimum wage. Thank you!  Now is the best time to take the next, powerful step. We need your help in making sure this issue gets the attention it needs by your legislators by writing a Letter to the Editor to your local newspaper explaining why raising the minimum wage is a top priority in your community and also needs to be a top priority for your members of Congress when they return to work in the fall.

Taking a quick moment now to click the link to use our easy platform to write a Letter to the Editor to your local paper is a powerful way to change the media’s coverage of this issue and grab the attention of your U.S. Senators and Representative.

Increasing the minimum wage will boost our economy. Two-thirds of minimum wage workers are women and many are moms.  Women make three-quarters of all purchasing decisions in our consumer-fueled economy, and when women don’t have adequate funds to spend then our whole economy suffers.

Increasing the minimum wage would boost our communities and the overall economy by providing more people with income to spend on the basics in stores across the nation, yet the U.S. Senate has had only one failed attempt to vote on the bill that would raise the minimum wage and the U.S. House of Representatives has done nothing at all!

We need to change this and we need your help to make some noise in the local press.

Help us call on Congress to raise the minimum wage by sending a Letter to the Editor today using our amazing (and easy!) tool: http://action.momsrising.org/lte/MinimumWage_LTE/

We need to remind members of Congress that raising the minimum wage is a priority for their constituents. Together we can make sure that when Congress returns to Washington, D.C. in September, they vote on the bill that would raise the minimum wage from $7.25 to $10.10.

After you click the link to send your Letter to the Editor post the action link on Facebook and Twitter. The more of us who send letters, the bigger the impact we’ll have.

Thank you for being a strong voice for a fair wage!
