"My adopted son, who is now 7 years old, is autistic and has ADHD. He receives Medicaid because of his adoption. My husband and I are both on fixed incomes due to being 100% disabled veterans… Medicaid is our saving grace for our son.” ―Victoria in Sierra Vista, AZ
What’s happening? Last week, the Republican-led U.S. House of Representatives passed a budget resolution that would cut at least $880 billion in Medicaid funding through 2034—that would affect 72 million Americans who use this critical program for their health insurance. Why are they doing this? Because Republican leadership in Congress is prioritizing tax cuts for billionaires and corporations at the expense of the health needs of families across the nation!
Medicaid is a critical lifeline that people across the country use to access health care. It ensures that children and people can see doctors when they get sick, seniors can receive long-term care and be in nursing homes, and that people with disabilities can access the services they need to live independently. This program also supports rural hospitals, creates health care jobs, and strengthens our economy. Unfortunately, Republican leaders in Congress are barreling toward a budget that will make drastic cuts to this essential program. This reckless move will strip health care services from children, families, seniors, new parents, people with disabilities, and low-income people across the country—the very people who need health care access the most.
Tell Republican leaders in Congress: Hands Off Our Medicaid!
Not only is Medicaid crucial for our health, the economic benefits of Medicaid cannot be overstated. When people have access to preventive care, they're more likely to stay healthy and productive—and this saves healthcare dollars in the long run for all of us. Families also avoid medical debt and children perform better in school when their health needs are met. And research has even shown that children with Medicaid coverage grow up to earn and contribute more to the economy as adults.
If these cuts become reality, millions will lose coverage, benefits will be reduced, and waiting lists for services will significantly increase. States will be forced to make impossible choices about who receives care and who doesn't.
We must protect this vital program! Tell Republican leaders in Congress: Hands off our Medicaid!

Dear Congress,
We demand that you protect Medicaid funding and oppose any budget cuts, block grants, or per capita caps that would threaten health care access for millions of Americans. Medicaid is essential for more than 72 million Americans, including children, families, seniors, new parents, people with disabilities, and people across the country. It keeps our hospitals open, creates jobs in our communities, and strengthens our economy.
We urge you to reject any proposal that would cut Medicaid funding or restructure the program in ways that reduce coverage. Instead, we urge you to support policies that strengthen and expand Medicaid access and put healthcare access for your constituents above tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations. The health and well-being of our nation truly depends on it—hands off our Medicaid!
Americans across the country have come together to protect health care and Medicaid before—and we must do it again! It’s time to speak out loudly about why Medicaid matters.
