The Story of Stuff - Must See Video for All Families
Hopefully you're beginning to notice new topics being covered here at MomsRising, like BPA in baby bottles and carcinogens in baby shampoo. Every parent should be aware of toxic chemicals in everyday products because they can impact the health and development of your children. Luckily, there are many safer products available and new ones popping up in stores every day.
Still, I think it's important that we not only try to find safer products, but that we think about how much we're buying and throwing away en masse. Where it all comes from and where it all goes.
If you haven't seen it yet, it's time for you to join the 6 million people who have already watched Annie Leonard's "Story of Stuff."
According to her website, "From its extraction through sale, use and disposal, all the stuff in our lives affects communities at home and abroad, yet most of this is hidden from view. The Story of Stuff is a 20-minute, fast-paced, fact-filled look at the underside of our production and consumption patterns. The Story of Stuff exposes the connections between a huge number of environmental and social issues, and calls us together to create a more sustainable and just world. It'll teach you something, it'll make you laugh, and it just may change the way you look at all the stuff in your life forever."
It has definitely changed the way I look at things and I've watched it with my daughters, too. The use of cartoons and Annie's natural dramatic flare make it a perfect educational tool for kids (and adults).
