Leanne Simon serves as the Executive Director of Zomppa, a nonprofit whose mission it is to transform children’s relationship with food and planet through personal health, cultural awareness, and social justice education. She also presents a curriculum of her own design to preschools and grades K-4 about migrant farmworker issues. Her goals are to equip children with the tools they need to become advocates and activists within their own families, schools and communities.
In addition to her work with children, she has also produced numerous documentary films on a range of topics- from migrant farmworking families and abandoned historical buildings to the impact of US policies on Mexican weaving cooperatives and Afro-Colombian coastal communities.
She holds undergraduate degrees in Spanish and Child Development from NC Central University, and a Certificate in Documentary Arts from Duke.
She is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Peace and Conflict Studies from UNC-Greensboro with a focus on peace building through food justice.
