Sarah Wakeen has been implementing psychosocial programming in U.S. emergencies for Save the Children since Hurricane Sandy hit her community in 2012. She has since deployed to several natural and man-made emergencies, including four months on the Texas border assisting the surge of Central American families fleeing gang violence in 2014. In her current role as Psychosocial Programs Manager, she is working to integrate psychosocial elements into Save the Children’s U.S. development programs while overseeing psychosocial recovery projects in four US states and four countries abroad.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in International Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a certificate in Mental Health in Complex Emergencies from Fordham University, and a certificate in Humanitarian Operations from Oxford Brookes University.
