As a member of Waterkeeper Alliance, Mobile Baykeeper is one of 199 organizations working across the globe to protect its local waterways. Waterkeeper Alliance is the leading voice for the world’s waters with roots dating back to 1966, when a concerned group of commercial and recreational fishermen mobilized to reclaim the Hudson River from polluters. Last month I reached out for help from fellow moms across the nation. In the summer of 2010, my daughter’s best friend stood in the Gulf with tears streaming down her face as oil washed ashore in Alabama. The explosion that took place on April 20, 2010, and the resulting 250 million gallons of oil that spilled into the Gulf continues to challenge our region.
