Your voice needed! Help 500K uninsured North Carolinians get health coverage.
August 20, 2015
“The health and economic security of more than 120,000 low-wage parents is at risk in the insurance coverage gap due to politics surrounding Medicaid expansion.”~ Laila A. Bell, Director of Research and Data at NC Child
It’s common sense: When families have parents who are insured, the entire family’s health and economic security improves. As moms and dads, we get it. But our state lawmakers seem to be having a hard time understanding what a difference health coverage through Medicaid expansion could make to low-income North Carolinians.
We need your voice to push our legislators off the sidelines! Send a Letter to the Editor of your local paper calling on state lawmakers to expand health coverage to low-income uninsured North Carolinians!
It’s easy! When you click on the link above, we’ll lead you through a quick process to write a Letter to the Editor of your local newspaper. This tool is pretty magical—just edit one of our pre-drafted letters (or draft your own—we’ve provided talking points, too!) and send it to your paper with a few clicks.
Something has to give. Lawmakers in North Carolina have sat on the sidelines, mired in political gridlock, while legislators in other states have gotten their act together and protected the health of their constituents. Our letters will remind North Carolina’s leaders that we are not letting them off the hook.

Right now while lawmakers are in Raleigh, they pay attention to their local newspapers to stay informed about what’s on the minds of their constituents back home. We need to remind them that health coverage for families is a top priority for the voters in their districts. Together, we can keep expansion of Medicaid on the minds of lawmakers and our communities alike.
Making sure parents have health coverage is great for kids, too! A recent report from the Georgetown Center for Children and Families showed that an extremely effective way to reduce the uninsured rate for children is to extend coverage to parents—so the entire family can get covered!
