It’s no surprise that in poll after poll this election season, health care is consistently at the top of the list of voters’ concerns.
We all watched last year as the Republican-led Congress took one whack at health care after another, trying (and failing) to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA). And after that effort failed, we witnessed dozens of efforts to sabotage health care from the Trump Administration, including an executive order issued just this week designed to undermine our consumer protections on pre-existing conditions.

It’s a critical time to make our voices heard in our local newspapers so that voters understand the importance of supporting candidates who will protect our health care—and there’s no time to lose.
Just this week, the Trump Administration has taken even more steps to undermine access to quality, affordable health care coverage. Specifically, in a two-fold effort to sabotage the ACA and roll back improvements in our health care coverage, the Trump Administration just issued a new federal policy on 1332 waivers and an executive order to expand Health Reimbursement Arrangements (HRAs). Both of these actions will serve to gut the protections that ensure families have access to quality, affordable health care coverage.

What’s a Health Care Voter? A Health Care Voter is someone who votes for candidates who stand for protecting and expanding health care. And health care needs a lot of protection right now because the Trump administration’s attacks on our nation’s health care will continue to erode coverage and drive up costs for families across the country. In addition, Republicans have already vowed to try to repeal the ACA should they do well this election cycle, undoing all the good this law has done for tens of millions of people across the country. Health Care Voters will hold our leaders accountable for their actions on health care and vote for candidates who will protect the gains we’ve made in coverage and work to make sure that everyone has access to quality, affordable health care coverage.
The ACA added critical protections for consumers, expanded access to care, and began to slow the skyrocketing costs of health care coverage. But since its passage, moms, dads, brothers, sisters, doctors, nurses, and so many more have had to fight time and time again to protect this law. It is critically important this election season to make our voices heard loud and clear that we will vote to protect our health care by supporting candidates who stand for our health.
