Statement “The U.S. Senate failure on Thursday to pass the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act by unanimous consent is a painful disappointment, but a temporary one. This must not stand. This bill, which has overwhelming bipartisan support among lawmakers and voters, can still – and must – become law this year.

News release For America’s moms, extension of the expanded Child Tax Credit means being able to put nutritious food on the table, buy clothing and school supplies for their kids, pay for medications and therapies, and even save a little for a rainy day, a child’s college, or their own retirement. When the U.S. Senate let the expanded Child Tax Credit expire last year, it meant pain, hardship, and debt for millions of families. That’s why MomsRising is pressing hard for Congress to restore the expanded Child Tax Credit before the end of the year.

Statement “Day after day and year after year, Latina women are shortchanged on their paychecks because of one of the widest, most punitive wage gaps in the country, which persists across occupations and levels of education. This appalling wage discrimination is especially damaging for Latina moms, who are paid just 47 cents on the dollar paid to white dads. Overall, Latina women are paid just 54 cents compared to a dollar paid to white men. That’s deeply unjust and unjustifiable, and Latina families and communities cannot wait any longer for solutions.

Statement “Twenty-three months. That’s how long Native American women must work, on average, to be paid what white men are paid in one year – because in the United States today, Native women are paid just 51 cents for every dollar paid to white men. That’s appalling and driven by structural racism and sexism that are absolutely unacceptable.

Statement “U.S. Senate passage of the Respect for Marriage Act, now on track to be signed into law very soon, will make our country more fair, stable, and successful. This popular, bipartisan legislation will maintain the status quo by protecting the marriages of same-sex and interracial couples. It will repeal the discriminatory, misnamed Defense of Marriage Act, and ensure that federal benefits are available to married couples no matter which state they live in.

Statement “The brutal attack on patrons and staff at Club Q in Colorado Springs Saturday night is yet another heartbreaking mass shooting tragedy, this one leaving at least five people dead, some 25 others injured, and many more traumatized. That Club Q was preparing to host Transgender Day of Remembrance events this morning makes this violence even more painful. Our hearts are broken by this violence, and by the anti-LGBTQ+ and other hate that is escalating across our country.

Statement “Nancy Pelosi has been a trailblazer, a champion, and a hero for moms, families and our democracy – the leader our country has needed. Her decision to step down from leadership makes this a historic day for our nation. For us, it is also a day of gratitude for her service. America’s moms offer heartfelt thanks for her enormous contributions to our lives and to our nation’s strength, health and well-being. We look forward to continuing to work with her in the House.

Statement “Ending DACA (the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program) would be devastating, not just for the 600,000+ people enrolled in the program but for hundreds of thousands of their children and families, as well as for America's workforce, communities, and our economy. Yet courts may be poised to do just that. That’s why it is so urgent that Congress act before the end of the year to create permanent protections for the hundreds of thousands of people who were brought to this country as children, making it the only place they have ever called home.
