I've worn a lot of different hats for MomsRising -- fundraiser, blogger, donor communications. This fall, I put on a new one -- answering emails from our voter postcard volunteers.
By all measures, the MomsRising voter postcard program SMASHED records for volunteers, the number of postcards pledged (and MAILED!), and donations. You REALLY, REALLY, REALLY loved writing these postcards. It was a tangible, personal, easy, affordable and SAFE way to Get Out The Vote.
So, it's really no surprise that Team Postcard Inbox (there are four of us) received over 7,300 emails from postcard volunteers, including 4,000 photos of your postcard writing adventures.
Combing through these photos for a few favorites to highlight was like surfing a tidal wave of civic pride and joy. It was so much fun!
You took me on a journey to every state in the nation, and into your kitchens, cars, offices, living rooms, bedrooms and backyards.
You gathered with family, friends, neighbors and parishioners. You stole moments to write between naps, on airplanes, on the sidelines, on vacation...even in a cancer treatment center.
You powered through millions of cards with coffee, wine, water and Zoom. You broke out the markers and stamps and stickers and wrote "Please be a VOTER with me" in every color of the rainbow.
You showed me your beloved pets -- cats and dogs and birds and gerbils...even a snake (I'm not quite positive that was a pet.)
You made an extra effort to honor the extraordinary life of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
You promised to BE a voter, and to RAISE a voter.
You gushed, "Thank you for letting me help," "This was fun" and "I feel like I made a difference."
I want you to know, dear volunteers, I see you. I thank you. And I cannot be more proud to rise with you.
