News release WASHINGTON, DC -- On Wednesday, June 21st, Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR), Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), and Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) will join with a coalition of progressive organizations, health care advocates, and parents and kids dressed in superhero costumes, for a speak out on Capitol Hill opposing the repeal of the Affordable Care Act and its replacement with the secretive Republican plan.

Statement SEATTLE, WASHINGTON -- Yesterday, Seattle police officers shot and killed Charleena Lyles, a black 30-year-old mother of four having a mental health emergency, in front of “several children.” According to the Seattle Times, Lyles had a history of mental health struggles and was three months pregnant with her fifth child when she was shot by police. Lyles had called the police to report a possible burglary and was killed by responding officers.

Statement MARYLAND -- Moms across the country are applauding Maryland legislation that significantly restricts disciplinary actions like suspensions and expulsions of public school students in pre-K through second grade, which passed in April and has been officially made law. The new law will ban expulsion as a penalty for children in almost all cases, and restrict the use of suspensions only to narrow, case-by-case circumstances.   In response to the new law, Monifa Bandele, Vice President of MomsRising, issued the following statement:

Statement WASHINGTON, DC -- Today, Senators Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Patty Murray (D-Wash.) along with Rep. Bobby Scott (D-Va.) and Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.), introduced the Raise the Wage Act of 2017 –  legislation that would immediately increase the federal minimum wage to $9.25 per hour, increasing the minimum wage gradually until it reaches $15 per hour by the year 2024. The legislation would increase the tipped minimum wage for workers who have not seen a salary increase since 1991. The bill has 31 Senate co-sponsors and 152 co-sponsors in the House of Representatives.
