Statement “Today, Andrew Puzder withdrew his nomination to be the United States Secretary of Labor, a major victory for America’s working moms, dads and families and a demonstration of the power of grassroots activism. Half of all primary breadwinners are moms. The U.S. Department of Labor is critical to the everyday lives of working moms and their families, and together we showed that we will persist and will not accept a Labor Secretary who does not value working families and does not prioritize policies that will boost our national economic security.

Statement “In another cynical, partisan vote, the U.S. Senate last night confirmed Rep. Tom Price to serve as the nation’s next U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) – putting our country’s health care system at risk. This confirmation will exacerbate the deep anxiety that moms and caregivers around the country have about whether their families will be able to get the health coverage and care they need.

Statement “It is nothing less than shameful that the U.S. Senate tonight confirmed Jeff Sessions to serve as U.S. Attorney General – our country’s chief law enforcement officer. Sessions’ record on basic civil rights is profoundly disturbing. His vision for America hurts our children, families, communities, economy and country.  In fact, Sessions’ use of racist rhetoric and targeting of civil rights activists rightly cost him a seat on the federal bench years ago, and it should have disqualified him from serving as U.S.

Statement “It’s time – past time – to make paid leave a reality for all workers in this country. Whether it’s to care for a newborn you swear already smiles, a mom who is ill, or a spouse battling cancer, being there for family is what matters. You shouldn’t have to give up your paycheck, or risk losing your job, to do so.

Statement “Every Senator who voted to confirm Betsy DeVos to serve as U.S. Secretary of Education today should be ashamed. They put allegiance to an unpopular and dysfunctional president over the best interests of our children, our education system, our economy and our country – and above the wishes of their constituents, who spoke out in record numbers through phone calls, letters, faxes, and even in-person meetings to urge them to reject this nominee.

Statement “Since taking the oath of office, President Trump has pursued an agenda that undermines the values of our communities and the democratic principles that make our nation great. With so much at stake, it is critical that the U.S. Supreme Court remains an independent check on Presidential authority - one that protects the rights of all people and stands firm against discrimination. Neil Gorsuch will not be that check.

Statement “Rep. Tom Price demonstrated again that he would be a terrible choice to serve as the nation’s next U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services at the Senate HELP (Health, Education, Labor & Pensions) Committee hearing today. He supports the deplorable action by the new Congress to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA) without a replacement, which puts at risk the health insurance that 30 million people, including four million children, rely on.

Statement “As President Trump announced actions today, he invoked moms as an excuse for advancing his divisive policy that will hurt our economy, our families, and destroy communities.  We want to state clearly: The actions President Trump announced today are his agenda, not ours. And they are, quite simply, wrong.
