MomsRising Reacts to Trump Administration’s Executive Orders Requiring "Extreme Vetting" for Refugees
Washington, DC — Moments ago, President Donald Trump signed an executive order requiring “extreme vetting” for refugees entering the United States and suspending visas for those travelling from Syria, Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen.
Statement from Kristin Rowe-Finkbeiner, CEO and executive director of MomsRising.org:
“The moms of America know that our diversity is what makes our nation strong and prosperous. We teach our children to be inclusive, not to bully, and to treat other people as they would like to be treated. The right for all people in our country, no matter their background, to live, love and worship as they will, is enshrined in our Constitution—and is why America has long prospered.
President Trump’s executive order today that bans refugees and creates a de-facto religious test for new immigrants is both cruel and un-American. This heartless, Islamophobic act is not based on security concerns -- there is already a comprehensive screening process in place -- but rather is rooted in fear and prejudice. It is antithetical to our nation’s values.
“Welcoming diverse immigrants and refugees to our country isn’t just about Muslim families —it's about all our families. Taking away the basic civil rights of any group and building barriers between people not only undermines the moral and economic strength of our nation, it creates an opening to undermine the rights of all other groups. This isn’t the America we want for our children. And we won’t stand for it.”
