As you may know, recently I launched a global petition to fight for compulsory, practical food education for all children in schools across the world. Within a month, we had well over 700,000 signatures but now I really need your help to get more. I profoundly believe that it is every child’s human right to have access to food education from a young age. It’s only with this knowledge and understanding of food, where it comes from, how it affects their bodies, and how to grow, cook and enjoy it, that we will be able to fix the terrible state of global health as it stands today. Food Revolution...

Story by Alessandra Gaia Gorini Happy and healthy, this is how I feel and when I sit at my table to eat, I thank my family for teaching me simple behaviors to learn to love myself, starting in the kitchen! Since I was 16, I’ve been cooking. It makes me feel real and it gives me the feeling of being in harmony with the planet. I have to say that my food adventures have inspired much of my youth group, making them feel proud of introducing food activities to promote a sustainable life! The Food Revolution, and Jamie Oliver, are bringing us back on the happy track! It is the concept of a “...

Revolution Day 2013 Alexx Stuart Food Revolution Day, while of course created by the awesome Jamie, is a symbol for so much more than one person’s mission. It’s a symbol for all the efforts, the many movements, initiatives, grants, education programs, farmers’ markets and people making a difference when it comes to getting the essential message of Real Food out there in the world. It’s a day for doing, not just thinking we should do something. There are still too many people going through life completely disconnected to food. Food marketing has declared us too busy to cook for years, handing...

Food Revolution Day 2013 is just around the corner! On May 17 people from all over the world will stand together in support of good food and essential cooking skills. Why Diet-related diseases are among the world's biggest killers (1). This year alone, over 2 million people will die as a result of being obese (2) while over 2 million children will die from under-nutrition (3). We need to get back to basics and share our cooking skills and knowledge so everyone has access to good, nutritious food made from scratch. Cooking skills are declining and less people around the world now cook good,...

As students head back to school this year, many of them are also heading back to new school food as new meal standards begin to be implemented in cafeterias across the country. With a third of American children being overweight or obese, over 31 million children participating in the National School Lunch Program, and 15 years since the last update, these updates to the school meal program have come at an important time. The new regulations, which mean more fruit and vegetables, more whole grains, age-based calorie ranges and less salt and unhealthy fats, will go a long way to begin to remedy...

The Food Revolution has recently been reporting on the disappointing news that Congress has overruled some of the new school lunch standards recommended earlier in the year by the USDA. Lobbied heavily by the food industry, Congress changed the rules at the last minute to keep salty, highly processed, fast-food style items on the lunch tray every day. These new standards for the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) were the first major changes in 15 years, based on recommendations from the Institute of Medicine (IOM) and backed by 130,000 public comments. Yet Congress has overruled these...
