A new year is just that: new. It’s fresh and different and electric. It’s a time to dream, plan and get inspired. A time to finally kick off that new healthy habit, or maybe a time to end that not-so-great one. And it’s also a time to sweep away the clutter, from your inbox (don’t get me started)...

As we reflect on the past year, we see that 2014 brought some progress on protecting the reproductive health and rights of women who are incarcerated, but also revealed the deep, even intractable, problems that women face inside prison walls. Reducing the scale of incarceration is a critical part of any strategy to safeguard the health, rights, and futures of women who experience incarceration.

Two months ago, my heart froze when I heard about a school shooting at a high school near me in the Seattle-area. On Oct. 24, a shooter killed 4 classmates before fatally wounding himself at Marysville Pilchuck High School.

My daughter, Violet, has a rare, life-threatening health condition. When she was young, she had hundreds of seizures, sometimes 30 a day. Her hospital visits sometimes cost more than $250,000 EACH. Wage discrimination is very difficult to prove, but a few years ago I did just that. You see, the person who earned more than me is now my husband. We met 9 years ago at Columbia University, and we graduated together with the EXACT same degree.

I love the time before and around New Year’s Day. As a coach/speaker/author who has spent almost 30 years studying, writing and teaching in the area of human potential, this window of time–ripe with possibility and potential–always excites me. Yes, January 1 is just another day, but it also...

Both my husband and I work full-time and we have two small children in the home. My husband and 11-year-old son are vegetarians, which means I have to get creative with what I make for dinner. The meals must be quick due to our time crunch, and at the same time hearty enough for vegetarians and...

When my son was born in 2003, I had no idea how I was ever going to exercise, much less work and keep a roof over our heads while caring for an infant – and a colicky one at that! I am pleased to announce that I survived the hellish sleep-deprived year that was my son's first year of life – lol! –...
