My two children have received excellent public health benefits in San Francisco since before they were born. I qualified for no-cost Medi-Cal during both pregnancies though my partner and I were both self-employed. After my children were born, this coverage has allowed me to focus on taking care of our kids - now ages 5 and 2.5 - rather than get a job just for the healthcare benefits.

Last week, MomsRising.org sent out a call to action for MomsRising members to start calling moms around the country to make sure they exercise their right to vote on or before Nov. 4. Mom volunteers either signed up to host calling parties or started calling on their own. Here is some feedback from a couple of moms who volunteered to help:

As the mother of a daughter, there are things I want for my eight-year-old especially when she becomes a woman -- things that I was lucky to have, but that generations before me didn't. Interestingly, John McCain, as the father of daughters, doesn't seem to want those same things.
