This is an important election year in North Carolina. In addition to a high profile US Senate race, North Carolinians will be voting on members of Congress, the entire NC General Assembly, members of the NC Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, and District Courts as well as a number of local races.
The voices and votes of moms are powerful, but only if we use them! We’ve compiled a number of resources to help NC moms be engaged voters this year.
Dates:
Oct. 10 - Deadline to register to vote in general election. Due to new voting laws, you will no longer be allowed to register and vote during the early voting period.
Oct. 23 - Nov. 1 - Early voting period for general election
Oct 28 - Last day to request absentee ballot for general election
TUESDAY, NOV. 4 - ELECTION DAY (polls open 6:30 a.m. - 7:30 p.m.)
Voting Resources:
If you aren’t sure of your voter information, you can look it up on the North Carolina Board of Elections website.
You can also visit the NC Election Connection, sponsored by Democracy North Carolina, to get all your voting questions answered.
And to learn more about the candidates on the ballot you can find a nonpartisan voter guide here.
If you have questions about how to request an absentee ballot, visit the NC Board of Elections website here.
Candidate Forum Questions
If you attend a candidate forum, please take along MomsRising’s NC candidate questions that cover many of the issues facing NC families and ask about the issues important to you. You can download candidate questions here.
Vote with your Kids
We know that kids who grow up seeing their parents vote are much more likely to grow up to be voters themselves.
Make voting a fun family tradition! Check out Kids Voting North Carolina and Kids Voting Durham for book suggestions, craft ideas, fun websites, and more.
Be part of the action!
Throughout the voting period, we’re encouraging our members to share tweets about why you vote and pictures of your own voting traditions on Twitter at #WeVote. Join in the fun and encourage other moms in your life to make sure they vote this year, too!
Help encourage other NC women to vote.
MomsRising is part of a nonpartisan multi-organizational effort organized by NC Women Matter to encourage NC women to vote this year. Check out www.ncwomenmatter.org to see how you can get more involved!
Whatever you do- get informed, get involved, and vote this year. Your voice matters!
