Statement “The spike in attacks against the Jewish community across our nation – the violence and vandalism against people and property, the harassment and hate in person and online – is absolutely unacceptable and it must end. Anti-Semitism is shameful and can never be tolerated. It crushes our sense of community, undermines our stability and success as a society, damages our democracy, and sears our souls.

Statement “The Biden-Harris administration made the right and just decision by re-designating Haiti for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) this weekend. America’s moms support this action because we are determined that our Haitian neighbors, friends and colleagues be allowed to remain with their families and in their jobs, especially at this time when it is clearly not safe for them to return to Haiti.

Statement “When the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Protecting Moms Who Served Act in a unanimous bipartisan vote yesterday, members took a very welcome step to improve maternal health, reduce maternal mortality, and improve the health of veterans in our country. This bill, the first part of the Black Maternal Health Momnibus Act the U.S. House has passed, will codify and strengthen the Department of Veterans Affairs maternity care programs and support a badly needed comprehensive study to examine the unique maternal health risks facing pregnant and postpartum veterans.

Statement “The devastating health and economic harms caused by the pandemic have made a simple truth painfully clear: The United States economy isn’t working for moms, and wage discrimination is a major reason. Moms of color experience compounded wage discrimination and harms due to structural racism. We cannot have a just recovery without ending pay inequity and improving our inadequate care infrastructure, because they drive the shameful wage gap facing moms.

Statement “The American Families Plan will help reduce poverty, lift the economy, share prosperity, boost businesses, and end the pervasive inequities that consign so many families, and especially families of color harmed by structural racism, to hardship and want. Through long-overdue paid family leave, needed investments in education and child care, more generous food assistance, strategic tax credits, and more, this plan will help build a care infrastructure to solve some of the most daunting challenges facing moms and families in our country today.

Statement “Chairman Richard Neal’s Building an Economy for Families Act is smart, responsive policy that meets the moment for America’s families. The country’s moms applaud the Neal plan’s comprehensive paid family and medical leave program, its measures to expand families’ access to quality, affordable child care provided by people who are paid a family-supporting wage, and the fact that it would make permanent the tax credits that have so much promise to help low-income families with children escape poverty.

Statement “Ma’Khia Bryant should be alive today. The police were called to calm the situation, not shoot and kill a child. There were alternatives – an endless number of alternatives – to using deadly force against a 16-year-old girl. Yet again police used unnecessary, unjustifiable lethal force against a person of color, with a tragic result.

Statement “If we are to have a just, equitable, robust recovery from the pandemic, lawmakers must finally invest in our child care system and in the care infrastructure our country needs. That is why we are so pleased that Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) and Rep. Bobby Scott (D-Virginia) introduced the Child Care for Working Families Act today.

April 21, 2021
Statement “Washington State moms and families commend our state House of Representatives for passing ESSB 5096, which will support an equitable, long-term recovery from the pandemic and help create a stronger, more fair economy in our state. This new excise tax on extraordinary profits from capital gains will provide critical revenue for much-needed investments in child care, early learning, and education. That will help moms, caregivers, and families recover from the pandemic, strengthen our state’s care infrastructure, and combat structural racism and sexism.
