Have your kids or grandkids been trying to sneak into their Halloween costumes early? They aren’t alone!

On October 24th at 10am I’ll be dressing up for Halloween early with candy in hand to visit the Burlington Mayor’s Office. Why? To send one strong message: Let’s give Burlington kids the treat of quality, affordable early learning programs like childcare and pre-k!  

Meet me there with the kids, friends, and maybe even your neighborhood vampire! Together we can show local leaders that early education and care is a priority for Burlington families.

Earlier this year, city leaders piloted the Burlington Early Learning Initiative to improve kindergarten readiness, reduce special education costs and other public spending and help break the cycle of multi-generational poverty. [1] This is a great start, but Burlington leaders can’t do it alone. They need a strong showing of public support to do more, which is why we’ll be presenting leaders with an Early Learning Champion medal and the Strong Start for Strong Cities guide with additional ideas and best practices on how the city can strengthen early education and care for local families.

When: October 24th at 10am

Where: Burlington City Hall, 149 Church Street, Burlington, VT 05401

What: Costumes, goodie bags, and delivering the Strong Start for Strong Cities book to Burlington leaders with other MomsRising volunteers in person.

Who: Families in the Burlington area (that means YOU if you are in the area. Come as you are - there’s no need to dress up if you don’t want to or read up on the issue! Your presence is enough.) **kids and babies are welcome and encouraged!

Our gathering is a fun, powerful way to thank the city’s leadership for making early learning a priority while encouraging them to continue strengthening childcare and pre-k across the city. And by joining us, you’ll be representing the dozens Burlington parents who signed the open letter, but couldn’t make it in person. Hope to see you there!
