Take Down The Confederate Flag EVERYWHERE!

June 23, 2015
We all know moms and educators like Sharonda Singleton-Coleman. At school she was running "cheek to cheek" with the students on her track team, pushing and motivating them to be the best they can be. At home she was being an amazing mother: raising teens, loving them, praying for them, smiling, and, (of course) hiding the TV remote so they didn’t have too much screen time. While this mother of three gave life and nurtured so many, her life was taken when she and eight others were gunned down in a vicious act of racial terrorism, the kind that has for too long been glorified by the iconography of the Confederate flag. It's time to take the confederate flags down. No child should lose their mother to racial terrorism. All families should be protected by our nation's promise of liberty and justice for all.

“We Just Came for a Birthday Party”

We just came for a birthday party,” pleaded one Black male teen that had been forced to the floor. I watched the video from Craig Ranch North Community Pool in McKinney, Texas four times. June 18, 2015
By Joan Blades and Ralph Benko What's really at the root of America's political misery? We say: people just are not listening to each other. It's not merely at the level of elected officials. Elected officials are only the tip of the iceberg. And the iceberg is ... us. (The good news? We can...

Safe and Private Isn't an Option

June 16, 2015
I don't have to tell any parent that, once you have a child in your life, privacy goes out the window. From the minute baby can walk, nowhere is sacred. You can't pee, shower, or dress without at least the threat of imminent interruption. Life gets all the more interesting when the child learns to...

We've got the power

June 3, 2015
It's an old story: Large industrial farms routinely give antibiotics to healthy animals, with Big Ag and Big Pharma encouraging the practice. This is new: what's happening now doesn't follow the stereotypical script. “Heavy-handed, bureaucratic government regulators who take joy in making...
