Statement “America’s moms rejoice that, for the first time in our country’s history, a major political party’s presidential ticket includes a woman of color. This historic choice – the first African American and Asian American woman vice-presidential candidate on a major ticket – is long overdue. Our nation’s rich diversity should always be reflected in its candidates for high office and its leaders.

News release “America’s moms are horrified and disgusted by what President Trump said this morning, all but admitting he is withholding U.S. Postal Service funding in order to make mail-in voting impossible this year. People rely on the mail to get life-saving medications, checks that allow them to buy food and pay the rent, and bills they need to pay. In rural communities, the postal service plays an even greater role in community life. It is a major employer of veterans. Clearly none of that matters at all to President Trump.

Statement “Today serves as a painful reminder of one of the many forms of oppression Black women in the United States face every day: the wage gap. On average, Black women are paid just 62 cents for every dollar paid to white men. This pay gap is even more punitive for Black moms, who are paid just 50 cents for every dollar paid to white fathers. This harmful, unjust gap results from systemic racism and sexism and does great harm to Black families’ economic security.

Statement “We are very pleased that Oakland County Judge Mary Ellen Brennan righted a wrong yesterday by ruling that ‘Grace’ should be released from probation and her case closed. Prison is no place for a kid, and detaining a teen with special needs who missed homework assignments after her school switched to virtual instruction was a cruel, harmful miscarriage of justice – an outrageous example of the over-criminalization of Black youth that happens much too often in this country.

Statement “The moms of America strongly support getting immediate economic relief to our country’s families, but we do not support empty promises or unworkable, inactionable Executive Orders that will result in nothing more than raising people’s hopes -- only to then dash them.

Statement “Prison is no place for a kid. The Michigan Court of Appeals acted wisely and with common sense and compassion on Friday by ordering the immediate release of ‘Grace’ from a youth prison. It was a cruel, terribly harsh miscarriage of justice to imprison a teen with special needs for missing homework assignments and a painful example of the over-criminalization of Black youth in this country.

Statement “In passing two bills that make the significant investment in child care we urgently need, the U.S. House of Representatives took a bold step to stave off the collapse of our child care system, which would cripple our economic recovery. Without child care, parents are struggling to work and, as states continue to reopen, this will only get worse, making it impossible for many parents of young children to return to the workforce.

Statement “The Trump administration memo, issued yesterday, was another cruel attempt to deport, demean and detain immigrants. Trump’s decision to accept no new applicants in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program and renew protections for one year instead of two is a step on the road to dismantling the program. It circumvents the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision and is another disgraceful attempt to sow hatred and division.

Statement “Children and seniors are going hungry, moms and kids are being evicted, families are being plunged deeply into debt, and people are watching their savings, college and retirement funds – built up over a lifetime – dwindle and disappear. Yet the package U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans just released utterly fails to meet this moment of crisis in a meaningful way, and the time it took them to develop it all but ensures there will be gaps in eviction protections, unemployment boosts, and other supports families urgently need. Statement “Outrageous. Immoral. Unconstitutional. Pathetic. The President’s decision to send troops to Portland, Oregon, against the wishes of state and local officials, is an appalling abuse of power and a violation of the most basic rights of American citizens. It is profoundly disturbing that federal troops – in camouflage and wearing no identification – have forced people into unmarked cars, threatened and tried to intimidate protestors, and used tear gas against public officials.
