Statement “The irresponsible, ideologically-driven actions by anti-abortion lawmakers in Missouri could create a devastating public health emergency that harms moms throughout the state. Every woman needs access to safe, legal abortion care, as well as the birth control and family planning services – and cancer and sexually-transmitted-disease screenings – that Planned Parenthood clinics provide. Yet for no legitimate reason, Missouri’s Department of Health and Senior Services is threatening not to renew the license of Reproductive Health Services of Planned Parenthood of the St.

Statement “The rule the Trump administration released this morning is another vile, harmful attempt to sabotage the Health Care Rights Law, sanction and promote discrimination, and allow providers to deny people the health care they need. The ACA’s section 1557 was a groundbreaking rule that protected access to health care for women, members of the LGBTQ community, and others who face gender and other forms of discrimination. It must never be weakened or reversed.

Statement “We were deeply saddened to learn that a 2 ½-year-old toddler from Guatemala who was held at the United States/Mexican border died while in U.S. custody. He is the fourth child from an asylum-seeking family to die here so far this year and we fear he will not be the last.

Statement “Yesterday the U.S. House of Representatives took an important step to secure and protect the health care that moms and families rely on by passing H.R. 987, the Strengthening Health Care and Lowering Prescription Drug Costs Act. This legislation would protect coverage for those of us with pre-existing conditions; protect people from ‘junk’ plans which invite discrimination and are without essential consumer protections; and help address the skyrocketing costs of prescription medications.

Statement “The Equality Act is anti-discrimination legislation the country needs and America’s moms support. We thank House leaders for bringing it to the floor today and commend every representative who took a stand for fairness and equality by voting to pass it. We now urge the U.S. Senate to do the same.

Statement “Tonight as the Governor of Alabama signed into law the most restrictive abortion ban in the country, we all witnessed an attack on the women and moms of America. If the goal of those who are passing such severely restrictive laws was to avoid abortion, then they'd be passing access to free birth control, which is proven to lower abortion rates, not setting lifetime imprisonment laws for doctors who help women in need.

Statement “Today’s reintroduction of the bipartisan Pregnant Workers Fairness Act in the U.S. House of Representatives gives lawmakers the chance to take concrete action to support moms and families, stop an insidious form of discrimination, and boost the economic security of hardworking families. Enactment of this bill should be an extremely high priority for leaders in both chambers of Congress and for the Trump administration.

Statement “It is deeply disappointing that Gov. Sununu vetoed SB 1 yesterday. This bill would have provided a critical safety net for workers and their families, helped keep small businesses competitive, and strengthened our state’s economy. Workers need job-protected paid family and medical leave to care for a family member in the event of birth, adoption or fostering of a child; to recover from illness or injury; or to support a family member facing a serious health condition.
